Speakers

Speakers are the thing at the end of the chain, that turn your guitars electrical signal back into the physical vibration that we hear… that’s why they are important. That said, tone is very subjective, and we all prefer different sounds. By choosing four speakers below you can compare one against the other, hopefully closing in on your favourite sounds.

Simply select 4 speakers from our library by clicking on each one to add them to your pallet at the bottom of the screen to do a direct comparison for how they sound on their own or in a mix.

Please note, all speakers are 8ohms unless otherwise stated. For more info see the bottom of the page.

These sound samples are all taken in an identical setup. We used a controlled situation to eliminate as many variables as possible, but please note, speakers can vary and will sound different in different situations so this tool is more of a guide than a definitive resource. The cab is a modified Zilla Fatbaby 1x12, in closed back unless otherwise stated. Remember there are no rights or wrongs in music.

Closed back tracks are recorded using an SM57 mixed with Austrian Audio OC18, close mic’d, with open back tracks recorded using the same technique and mic placement but with some room mixed in (using a second OC18).

We kept mic placement the same for each of these sound samples but speakers can sound different with a different mic position. Keeping everything constant is an unfortunate necessity in this case. In real life we’d eq our amp and guitar with different speakers to hone in on a better sound to our ears, which hasn’t been done here.
